Burotop Iris took part in the first FrancoTech trade fair for French-language innovations, held in Paris on October 3 and 4, 2024.
Taking part in the round table “Artificial Intelligence: a challenge for economic and cultural sovereignty”, Burotop Iris CEO Issa Attye shared his vision and analysis of the subject, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
He pointed out that Africa’s economic sovereignty is a real issue and will be at the heart of the challenges that AI will pose in the coming years.
AI will indeed be a formidable gas pedal in the short and medium term in sectors such as agriculture and healthcare. Not to mention, according to the International Finance Corporation, the immediate creation of 230 million jobs on the continent.
At the same time, in Africa 70% of the population is under the age of 25. The boom in new technologies could therefore create jobs for young people.
Burotop Iris, a major player in the development of new technologies in Congo Brazzaville, is helping to create the conditions for digital access and AI.
The company has laid over 5,000 km of fiber optic cable in Central Africa.
Finally, Mr. Issa Attye pointed out that there can be no talk of sovereignty unless Africa develops its own applications, rather than importing them.
Lastly, he added that it was absolutely essential for governments to get to grips with the subject, by creating the legal and legislative conditions to provide a framework for the inevitable development of AI.
